As in the Days of Noah

Text: Matthew 24:37-39
"But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be."

Jesus warned that before His return, the world would mirror the days of Noah—times marked by moral decline, spiritual complacency, and widespread disregard for God’s Word. Just as people in Noah’s time ignored the warnings and continued in sin until the first drop of rain fell, many today are living carelessly despite the clear signs of the times.

But the Lord calls His people to remain steadfast, alert, and grounded in righteousness, especially in these perilous days.

I. The Moral Decline in the Days of Noah

Genesis 6:5 – “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Humanity in Noah’s time embraced wickedness as normal. Righteousness was mocked, violence increased, and immorality corrupted relationships. Marriage was abandoned for sinful lifestyles, and rebellion against God became the trend of the day.

The same pattern is reflected in Sodom and Gomorrah, where immorality reached a level that invoked divine judgment.

Jude 1:7 reminds us that these cities stand as warnings for those who indulge in ungodliness.

Today, we see the same signs:

Sin is normalized

Immorality is celebrated

Violence continues to rise

Many reject God’s truth because of greed and pride

But Scripture tells us God will not allow wickedness to continue forever. When the world mirrors the days of Noah, judgment draws near—and the Lord will preserve His chosen ones.

II. The Spiritual Complacency of Noah’s Generation

Despite Noah preaching righteousness for 120 years, people mocked him. They lived as if nothing would ever change.

2 Peter 3:3–4 tells us that in the last days, scoffers will question the Lord’s return and follow their own desires. We see this now—even with the gospel being preached worldwide, many still ignore God’s call to repentance.

Jesus also said:

Luke 17:27–28 – People were eating, drinking, marrying, buying, planting, building—living life as usual—until judgment suddenly came.

The same will happen today.
The Son of Man will come like a thief in the night. Only those who are spiritually prepared will go with Him.

That is why we must guard our hearts:

Hebrews 3:13 – “Exhort one another… that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”

III. God’s Call for Righteousness & Separation

In a corrupt world, Noah stood out.

Genesis 6:8 – “Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”
Genesis 6:9 – “Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”

Noah obeyed God despite mockery. He preached righteousness even when no one believed him. His steadfastness was rewarded—God preserved him and his family.

So must we.

Stand firm even when surrounded by corruption

Preach the truth without compromise

Live uprightly even when righteousness is unpopular

Stay faithful even when others turn away

Remember: If we stay faithful, God is also faithful to preserve us.

IV. The Coming Judgment and God’s Provision of Salvation

Just as there was only one ark in Noah’s time, there is only one way to salvation today.

John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

When Noah and his family entered the ark, Scripture says the Lord Himself sealed the door. Once judgment began, no one else could enter.

This is God’s message to us today:
Do not wait until it is too late.
Now is the time to enter the ark of salvation—Jesus Christ.

The devil wants people to believe that goodness is disappearing, but the truth is, God continues to pour out mercy, grace, and opportunity for salvation until the day He returns.

Life with God is not dull—there is joy, peace, and fullness in His presence.

V. Preparing for the Second Coming of Christ

The Lord is calling His people to holiness, vigilance, and unwavering faith.

1 Peter 1:15–16 – “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Luke 21:36 – “Stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength…”

The signs are here:

Moral decay

Spiritual complacency

Rebellion against God

The gospel being preached to all nations

Just as the flood came suddenly, so will the return of Christ.

So the question is: Are we ready?

In the days of Noah, many realized the truth only when the waters were rising—but by then, it was too late. The same warning applies today. You cannot ask for repentance when the door of grace has already closed.

Now Is the Time to Enter the Ark

God is giving us time.
Time to repent.
Time to be holy.
Time to separate from sin.
Time to prepare for His coming.

Let us stand firm, walk in righteousness, and remain committed to our Lord until He returns.

Now is the time to enter the ark of salvation.
Be steadfast. Be watchful. Be holy.
For the coming of the Lord is near.
